Filling a Niche
We feel like any good business answers a fundamental question. The particular question for WedWhere slowly boiled up over many years of running wedding businesses based in Colorado. You see, Colorado has thousands of square miles of mountains, forests, lakes and trails. Within that there are quaint mountain towns, vacation homes, bustling cities, ghost towns, tranquil valleys, rocky summits, ranches and ski resorts that dot the landscape. And as wedding vendors we would continuously travel to large and small weddings all over the state. What seemed to be missing though, was variety. Year in and year out, we kept going to the same places year after year.
Now, for larger weddings it makes sense. There really are only so many places that can host a sizeable number of guests and allow weddings. But what about intimate weddings and elopements? There have to be hundreds of amazing places with breathtaking backgrounds where you can gather somewhere around three to twenty people, right? Well, that’s the problem. If you search for elopement or intimate wedding locations in Colorado, you’ll likely pull up various photographer and wedding planner lists of roughly 10-20 places. And odds are those are the exact same 20 places we all already do weddings every year. So the question that WedWhere aims to answer is this… How can we help couples search through the vast number of amazing intimate wedding sites and find the site the suits them best?
We're Just Getting Started
While we’ve learned this lesson in Colorado, it really holds up everywhere. The current paradigm for wedding websites is to charge wedding vendors to advertise on their site. Which works great for large wedding venues willing to fork out and advertise. But it doesn’t work at all for public areas like parks, trailheads, caves, pavilions, waterfalls, ghost towns and gardens. You know, the places that are so cool and adventurous to do an intimate ceremony. So we are turning the idea on it’s head. Instead of couples going to a free website to only be able to see the wedding venues who have paid to advertise, we are charging a small fee to let couples see everything we can find. We have already scouted roughly 300 locations in Colorado and are working everyday to get more and more of them uploaded to the site. And Colorado is just the start. Coming up soon (if everything goes to plan), we’ll be adding Maui, Puerta Vallarta and Cancun in 2022. And after that, who knows what will be next…
Sustainability
And there are other great benefits to this as well. As you can imagine, funneling so many weddings to the same locations over and over again has caused some of those natural resources to become overused, worn out and a lot less special. We hope to spread the load so that every site can continue to be sustainable well into the future and more couples can have their own special place and be less trapped by cookie cutter intimate weddings. There is just such an incredibly untapped wealth of amazing places to make a life long promise that are criminally underused and under appreciated. It’s always going to be a work in progress and we’ll continually work to update sites we’ve already scouted and find new ones along the way.
Whether you need a wheelchair accessible, dog-friendly location with WiFi, or perhaps a secluded mountain top, near Breckenridge with restrooms, we can help you find the best possible site to meet your wedding day needs.
Experience & Values
Collectively we have over 20+ years and over 1,000 weddings between all of us, so there is no shortage of understanding what it takes to get hitched and what people commonly look for when searching for a ceremony site.
We strongly support Leave No Trace, an outdoor ethics organization that seeks to help protect the natural world through education and would invite you to learn more about what that means so that future generations, or even just the couple behind you, can experience these wonderful natural resources the same way that you just did.
Mission
To sustainably and responsibly support couples searching for intimate wedding locations.
Vision
We envision that every couple has the opportunity to find the best possible location for their wedding ceremony with access to private and public places.
