The lakeshore at Lower Cataract Lake is one of the more peaceful and serene places we’ve seen in Colorado. Admittedly, there really wasn’t anyone around when we were there, which helps a lot. But the lake was calm and the valley was quieting in more ways than sound. There are hiking trails around the lake, but the lakeshore site isn’t on the path which keeps it a little bit quieter. The lakeshore is not in the wilderness area, but it’s pretty close to it. Wilderness areas are protected areas where weddings and other events are not allowed. There is a campground nearby as well as two other trailheads (Surprise Trailhead and Eaglesmere Trailhead). The lake is fed by Cataract Creek and as you can imagine, comes down from Upper Cataract Lake. There are lots of interesting locations for couples photos in this area including a bridge and an aspen grove.
