Gross Reservoir – Rocky Point

If you ever wanted to get married in a special place that may never exist again, this may be just your spot. Gross Reservoir is slated for expansion. Denver Water is planning on raising the dam around 130ft above the current lake level. Permitting was completed in November of 2021 and construction is likely to start in 2022 with completion by 2027. We can’t find a more detailed timeline about when they plan to drain the reservoir. So, do check in with the admin authority to get more details about the current status and what it will likely be like on your big day. There are several ceremony spots along the trails on the north side of the lake with our favorite being at the highest rocky outcrop that we are calling ‘Rocky Point’. There is a trail that will take you up from the Gross Reservoir Parking Lot and it is a fair bit of a hike. However, while you can’t park in these spots, there is a gated driveway that you could use to drop people off right by the ceremony site. There are likely to be people visiting the area, but there’s a fair amount of privacy up at the point as you’re roughly 100ft off the trail. Over the lake and to the left is Gross Peak (although Gross Hill feels more apt). And in the distance on the right, Starr Peak towers over the landscape. The reservoir is filled by South Boulder Creek on the South side.
